FSSAI notifies laboratory analysis changes for April 2027

The September amendment covers methods and reporting timelines for regulatory and import samples.

FSSAI’s Laboratory and Sample Analysis Amendment Regulations, 2026 were notified on 14 September. They come into force on 1 April 2027.

Methods and reporting

The amendment specifies the use of FSSAI analysis manuals, with validated alternatives where a parameter has no method in those manuals.

It sets 14-day reporting provisions for regulatory samples and referral appeals, and a five-day provision for import samples. It also sets out how delays must be explained to the relevant authority.
