FSSAI updates vegan import certification, effective April 2027

The September notification introduces a specified certificate for imported products applying for vegan logo endorsement.

A September amendment specifies a certificate for imported products applying for vegan logo endorsement. It takes effect on 1 April 2027.

What the notification changes

The Vegan Foods Second Amendment Regulations, 2026 replace a general reference to an accepted format with Form I. The form is issued by a recognised authority in the exporting country.

It records product composition, batch and producer details, alongside declarations about production precautions, segregation or cleaning, and ingredient traceability.

What shoppers should not infer

This is an import certification amendment, not evidence that every product with a leaf on its packaging is endorsed. The commencement date is in 2027. It also does not make a vegan claim a substitute for reading an allergen warning.
