World Food Day 2026: what “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow.” means
A preview of FAO’s 16 October campaign, with a practical question for your next food shop.
World Food Day is on 16 October. This is a preview, published on 15 October, rather than a report of events that have already happened.
Food innovation is bigger than a new packet
FAO’s 2026 theme is “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow.” The campaign includes both new ideas and existing knowledge that can improve food systems.
Its scope includes access to food and the people who grow, make and distribute it. A new product launch alone is not evidence that a food is more nutritious or a better choice.

A smaller question for the shopping basket
Our companion guide asks whether a bigger pack will actually get used. Compare the cost per usable portion, storage needs and ingredients before choosing a bundle. A multipack can be good value, but buying more of the same food does not create a different formula.
